The Australian Open witnessed one of the shots of the tournament as Joe Salisbury hit an overhead winner from the back of the court over his rivals.

British doubles star Salisbury and American Rajeev Ram were up against Aussie duo Dane Sweeney and Li Tu during round three of the Australian Open.

At 2-2 in the first game, Salisbury was forced in chasing a volley right towards the match clock at the back of John Cain Arena.

With both Aussie opponents at the net, Salisbury was forced to jump in to the air and hit an overhead shot.

The ball curled over the pair and landed right at the back of the court to seal a remarkable winner.

Sweeney could be seen smiling in disbelief at the net after the remarkable shot.

Salisbury was so far back he stood up on the ledge right next to the match clock to take in the moment.

Salisbury and Ram won 6-4, 6-4 and will now take on Italian duo Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli.

Meanwhile, Australian duo Matt Ebden and Max Purcell advanced after winning their round three match at the Australian Open.

Doubles resurgence at Australian Open

Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis are another Aussie duo that moved into the next round after their thrilling 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over 15th seeds Ariel Behar and Gonzalo Escobar.

The Australians' form and on-court showmanship have reignited interest in the men's doubles tournament at Melbourne Park, with patriotic and often boisterous crowds flocking to their matches.

The enormous crowds flocking to see 'Special K' could pose further questions for TA.

The Kyrgios-Kokkinakis combination is shaping as a potential winner for Australia's Davis Cup qualifier against Hungary in Sydney in early March.

Kyrgios has previously thrived in singles on John Cain Arena and he and Kokkinakis have relished their hectic doubles crowds.

"You can't not get up for matches like this," Kokkinakis said.

"Tell Craig (Tiley) to keep scheduling us out here. This atmosphere is nuts."
