Augsburg miss out on European football after loss

Augsburg will miss out on European football next season after losing 1-0 at home to Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

A win would have kept Augsburg's hopes alive with one game remaining, but they never looked like beating a team who has already qualified for next season's expanded Champions League.

Augsburg are in ninth place, one point behind Hoffenheim who visit Darmstadt on Sunday.

Stuttgart went to second, a point above Bayern Munich, who meet Wolfsburg on Sunday.

Unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen, who are coached by Xabi Alonso, have already been crowned champions.

The only goal on Friday came from Serhou Guirassy a minute into the second half. His composed finish was the Guinean striker's 26th goal of the season.
