A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly hitting two people with a car following an altercation in southeast Queensland.

A 32-year-old woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and a man, 41, had a minor leg injury after the incident in Gympie late on Monday.

The three people allegedly got into an altercation along a road about 10pm before a 34-year-old man got into a nearby vehicle and drove at the other two before leaving the scene.

Police say he turned himself in a couple of hours later at Gympie Police Station, where he allegedly returned a positive breath test of 0.072 per cent.

The man will face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday on charges including two counts of attempted murder and failing to remain at an incident and render assistance.
