Actors Andrew Scott and Lily Gladstone are among the shock snubs for this year's BAFTA Film awards.

The nominations for the 2024 EE British Academy Film Awards were announced today (January 18) as awards season kicks into gear, with frontrunner Oppenheimer scoring the most nods with 13, including Best Film.

Also scoring highly were Poor Things with 11, including a Leading Actress nomination for Emma Stone, while Killers of the Flower Moon took nine.

However, surprisingly lead star Lily Gladstone failed to make the cut for Leading Actress, having been a strong contender all awards season for her acclaimed turn as Mollie Burkhart, notably winning a historic Golden Globe earlier this month. Martin Scorsese also failed to score a Director nod.

Andrew Scott was shut out for All of Us Strangers, despite being heavily favoured, though Paul Mescal has been nominated for Supporting Actor for his turn in the movie, as has Claire Foy, while Andrew Haigh is nominated for Director. The film also has Outstanding British Film, Adapted Screenplay and Casting nominations.

Greta Lee has also been snubbed for Leading Actress in Past Lives, though Teo Yoo has been nominated for Leading Actor, while movie also scored Original Screenplay and Film Not in the English Language nods.

Many on social media have shared their shock at the omissions, one person writing on X (formerly Twitter): "Lily Gladstone not nominated for baftas this is actually illegal".

"Greta Lee and Lily Gladstone not getting a BAFTAs nomination? wtf….," another added.

"All of Us Strangers getting nominations in supporting actor & actress, adapted screenplay, british film and direction but NOTHING for Andrew Scott who carries the entire thing with one of the best performances i’ve ever laid eyes on.. i feel sick," a third wrote.

"Andrew Scott not getting a nomination despite All of Us Strangers getting a whole lot of love in other categories is my villain origin story," another said.

The EE British Academy Film Awards take place on Sunday, February 18. It will air on BBC One and iPlayer.
