'Oh my goodness': Terrifying moment rocks cricket world

Andre Russell has been taken from the field on a stretcher after a horrifying bouncer blow in the Caribbean Premier League.

The West Indian star was batting for Jamaica Tallawahs against St Lucia Zouks on Thursday when he was struck by a ball from Hardus Viljoen.

The ball appeared to glance off Russell’s shoulder before hitting him in the side of the neck - similar to Steve Smith’s scary incident in the second Ashes Test.

Russell wasn’t wearing a StemGuard attachment - the device brought in to prevent batters being hit in the neck.

“Oh my goodness,” Ian Bishop said in commentary.

“You never like to see anyone get hit like that,” a co-commentator said.

Russell lay stricken on the pitch for a number of minutes before rising to his feet.

However he was placed on a stretcher and carried off the field as a precaution.

He was transferred to hospital for a head scan and later cleared of serious injury.

However the frightening scenes left fans shaken.

No concussion subs in CPL

Russell was ruled out for the remainder of the match, but was unable to be replaced as the CPL doesn’t use concussion subs.

Marnus Labuschagne became Test cricket’s first concussion sub when Smith was ruled out of the Lord’s Test last month.

Jermaine Blackwood then replaced Darren Bravo in a Test between West Indies and India after Bravo was struck on the helmet.
