Analysis: Chelsea 4-4 Man City

Manchester City will have been hugely frustrated to concede a stoppage time equaliser at Chelsea that restricted their lead at the top of the Premier League to a single point.

Manager Pep Guardiola saw his side trail once and lead three times before a 95th minute penalty from former City youngster Cole Palmer gave Chelsea a deserved point in a classic 4-4 draw.

Guardiola will know City must be more watertight in defence than they were at Stamford Bridge when they face Liverpool, just that point behind them, and their serious attacking menace when they meet at Etihad Stadium when the Premier League resumes after the international break.

Erling Haaland chipped in with his usual goals but there was an uncharacteristic vulnerability about City throughout, with Chelsea always in the game even when behind, the champions never seeming to have the game totally in their control.

If City are as open in defence against Liverpool as they were here, the likes of Mohamed Salad will be licking their lips and Guardiola’s side will run the risk of losing their lead at the Premier League summit.
