Sydney Swans defender Aliir Aliir has signed a three-year contract extension

In-form Sydney back Aliir Aliir has signed on for three more seasons with the Swans.

The 23-year-old key defender, who is now tied to the AFL club until the end of 2021, has returned to his best form in recent weeks.

He has played Sydney's last five fixtures. notching career-high game tallies of 15 kicks and 24 disposals in last Saturday's shock loss to Gold Coast.

The Kenyan-born back kicked his only goal in 22 games to win the previous week's match against North Melbourne.

His athleticism and rebounding dash has made him a favourite with Swans supporters. .

Injury issues limited him to just three games last season after he played 13 in his first AFL campaign in 2016.

"Since 2016, Aliir has had to overcome some injury challenges but we have seen in the past couple of weeks what he is capable of," said Swans head of football Tom Harley.

"Aliir is a popular clubman who we see playing an integral role for our club in the future."

Aliir joins emerging forwards Ben Ronke and Will Hayward in re-signing with the club this year.
