Ahmed puts Notts in control as Kent slump
Vitality County Championship Division One, Spitfire Ground, Canterbury (day two)
Nottinghamshire 433: Slater 160, Haynes 62, Hameed 56; Gilchrist 4-101
Kent 225: Evison 76; Ahmed 4-37 & 85-0: Muyeye 55*
Kent (3 pts) trail Notts (7 pts) by 123 runs following on
Farhan Ahmed took four wickets as Nottinghamshire boosted their County Championship survival prospects against Kent on day two in Canterbury.
The 16-year-old took 4-37 as Kent were bowled out for 225 in their first innings, 208 runs behind the visitors on first innings despite 76 from Joey Evison.
Notts skipper Haseeb Hameed enforced the follow-on after tea, but Tawanda Muyeye's quick unbeaten 55 and 25 not out from Ben Compton helped Kent to 85-0 - 123 runs adrift - when bad light ended play early.
Earlier, Notts added 40 runs to their overnight 393-6 before they were dismissed with Nathan Gilchrist taking 4-101.
Their seven bonus points mean that even if the hosts pull off an improbable win here, Notts would need just a single point from their final fixture at home to Warwickshire to ensure Kent go down.
If Lancashire beat Somerset, Kent will be relegated regardless of what happens on the final two days in Canterbury.
The visitors lost their last four wickets for seven runs to post 433, but Kent’s reply was just five balls old when Compton fell for four before Muyeye then went for 10.
Daniel Bell-Drummond went soon after lunch, Joe Denly fell for five and Jack Leaning went for 26 as the hosts were reeling at 96-5.
Ahmed then took over, getting Harry Finch caught at short leg, and Akeem Gordon made a game 23 before being trapped lbw.
Ahmed then got Parkinson for a 28-ball duck and Jacob Duffy bowled Nathan Gilchrist for four with the last scheduled ball before tea.
Kent then lost their final wicket in the extra half-hour when Evison holed out to Ahmed, and the hosts were forced to follow on for the sixth time this season.
Muyeye sped to 50 from 49 balls but, with the light deteriorating, play was abandoned at 18:06 BST.
