Bombers players hold secret meeting with AFL chief

Three Essendon Bombers players have held a secret meeting with AFL chief Gillon McLachlan as the club prepares for sanctions over the supplements scandal, Channel 7 AFL reporter Tom Browne reports.

Skipper Jobe Watson, Brendan Goddard and David Myers held the meeting at McLachlan’s Prahan house last Monday night, alongside AFL legal counsel Andrew Dillon.

The meeting was not organised by the club, but the Bombers gave the players its full support as they sought greater clarity on the AFL’s position and objective on the potential suspensions.

The meeting acts as somewhat of a ‘peace talk’ given the Bombers players have essentially been at war with the AFL for the past two years and according to reports, the meeting was received positively by all parties.

The AFL did stress however that the matter is being dealt with by an independent tribunal and that the outcome is still unclear.
