Koch fumes over Pies' Holden sponsorship

Port Adelaide Football Club president David Koch has taken a swipe at Holden for throwing its support behind a wealthy Victorian club.

The carmaker has signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with the Collingwood Magpies, while Port Power has been left idle.

Port Adelaide president David Koch drove the debate this morning on Sunrise.

“Gee, Jay Weatherill , premier of SA and taxpayers will be happy to see their $50 million in subsidies, part of that going to Collingwood, a rich Victorian AFL club – beauty,” he said.

Then Collingwood Magpies president Eddie Maguire hit back.

“To David Koch who had a crack at our partnership this morning, welcome to Collingwood pal,” Mr Maguire said.

Holden says the deal is all about selling cars.“Collingwood is the biggest AFL club in the country,” said Sean Poppitt from Holden.“More than a million people tune in every game.”The car giant has also signed a $10million deal with the NRL’s State of Origin to drive sales in the eastern states. The South Australian government says any boost would be good news for workers in Adelaide.“You’ve got to advertise where the market is, and that’s where the market is,” said SA employment minister Tom Kenyon.Holden says is hasn’t ruled out further sponsorship deals across the country - with clubs that align with its brand - but it won’t say if Port Adelaide is a contender.“We’ll evaluate different sponsorship arrangements on their own merit, but beyond that I really can’t comment.”Port says it is in talks with Holden and other potential sponsors, as it tries to bounce back from its $4million loss last year.

All I have to say to David Koch is not many people listens to you. You are the most boring TV host ever and Channel 7 ought to see you off asap. You do not own the company or the clubs so keep your comments out AFL does not need you. Another useless commen tfrom the person who hates breast milk.

Typical smug comment from Eddie Maguire, you would not expect anything less from the self-righteous idiot.

Perhaps a great idea for a sponser for Port Adelaide and Collingwood would have been a chain of dental surgeries.... Its easy to see when either teams games are televised many of their fans are more than potential dental clients....

Holden were lucky. Many other clubs have attempted in vain to be a part of the juggernaut but only Holden prevailed. You'll find the losers moaning on this website are the ones that only get mom and pa sponsorship. But in the end they get lucky as Collingwood have to end up subsiding their ineptness to make a dollar instead of losing millions

Guys, give Collingwood a break. They need extra funds to meet the costs they incur spying on their players to ensure their not crack heads. Holden, well their marketing team now have a chance to have a holden car stolen by a collingwood supporter, but everyone else will stop buying them. The rest of the population dont watch football so their sponsorship is useless for them.

Port can come back again - The AFL can support it - if it takes back some of the 100 million going to GWS and The Suns and the Lions Every year.....these clown teams lose millions and there is more from the AFL - but give a little to Footscray or North or Port ? There is no money for them.

Strange for Holden to want to be associated with a team thats lost 14 out of 18 grand Finals in the past 65 years. Probably attracted to there Lemmings supporters and knowledge they get an armchair ride each year picking there own fixture so i guess it has merit.
