Swans still keen on Tippett

Sydney have maintained their commitment to recruiting besieged forward Kurt Tippett despite the fact he is facing the very real threat of being deregistered by the AFL.

Tippett and the Crows have become the focus of a league investigation this week amid suggestions the two parties had entered a separate agreement to trade Tippett to the club of his choice, without the knowledge of the AFL, in 2009.

There are also suggestions that Tippett's recently-expired contract with Adelaide may have involved additional financial compensation outside the salary cap, with the AFL seizing records from the Crows on Friday as part of its investigation.

Tippett nominated the Swans as his preferred destination during the exchange period, which ended on Friday, despite widespread speculation that he wanted to return to his home state of Queensland and join either Brisbane or Gold Coast for next season.

After initially being offered Jesse White and pick 23 by Sydney for Tippett, Adelaide were virtually prohibited from trading the 25-year-old on Friday by the AFL due to the situation he has found himself in.

But at this stage the AFL will allow Tippett to nominate for either the national or pre-season drafts and the Swans are still keen to secure his services, according to Sydney CEO Andrew Ireland.

"Once Kurt nominated the Swans as his preferred club, we entered the trade period with the intention of securing a suitable trade," Ireland said.

"Our position on Kurt has not changed, and pending the outcome of the AFL's current investigation, we remain committed to recruiting Kurt for the 2013 season."

Tippett played 104 games and booted 188 goals in five seasons with the Crows.
