Reigning premiers Sydney will have an advantage over their rivals next year with the AFL revealing that the Swans will get to play this year's wooden spooners Greater Western Sydney twice in 2013.

The AFL outlined some new key areas surrounding next year's fixture with the Swans already looking like the big winners before the full fixture is released later this month.

This year's top four - Sydney, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Adelaide - will only play the bottom four sides - GWS, Gold Coast, Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs - once with the exception of the Swans and Giants, who will meet twice as they are crosstown rivals.

In other new developments, the bottom 10 sides from 2012 will all be scheduled to have a maximum of two return meetings with top-eight sides.

And where possible, the eight finalists from 2012 will all be programmed to have a maximum of two return meetings against sides in the bottom 10.

There will be four Thursday matches in 2013 across Round 1, Anzac Day Round (two matches on Thursday April 25) and Round 14, along with two Monday night matches in Round 7 (Melbourne) and Round 10 (Perth) respectively.

Also, as Port Adelaide and West Coast travelled in the final round of this year's season, they will be scheduled at home in Round 23 with Adelaide and Fremantle set to play away from their respective states in the final week before the finals.

The fixture will follow the model used this year with each club playing 22 games over 23 rounds and for the period where clubs have their byes between Rounds 11-13, the AFL will again schedule three rounds of six matches with the goal of a team from each state competing in a match in each week through that period.

This is the perfect example of the AFL losing touch with reality in being able to create a true national football league....They will be playing games for premiership points in NZ?

You are so similar to that rat Lance Armstrong it isnt funny i tell you....You would be the type of person who would sell a rats r sole to a blind man for a wedding ring...would'nt you!....lmao!

Read this but trying to work out what the difference is??? The spin doctors at the AFL are at it again. In other new developments, the bottom 10 sides from 2012 will all be scheduled to have a maximum of two return meetings with top-eight sides. And where possible, the eight finalists from 2012 will all be programmed to have a maximum of two return meetings against sides in the bottom 10.

The point i'm making is...The AFL are a business but it is a shame that money has interfered with the natural expansion and direction, that the true ideology for a national football league has been left behind for others to be included.....Are the other inclusions really warranted? when places like tassie etc the grass roots of Australian Rules Football have been seemingly forgotten as a genuine inclusion to the AFL.

The swans may have a "glory period"....in 2013 anybody in the top 8 have the potential to win the GF.....From the interstate perspective and plans for the epansion of the AFL.....We have 8 interstate teams and 10 Victorian teams....The AFL are proposing the idea of having teams representing Northern Western Australia and Northern Queensland which would create a 22 team competition and thats minus tassie and NT for a true national comp and maybe the intro of a team from NZ? The question remains....Can the Melbourne based clubs survive? Hawthorn being at tassie is one of the biggest errors the AFL has ever made!

Typical AFL RORT.... Thats right lets get all the top sides to play each other twice whilst the undeserving #$%$ sides get it easy.... why dont we just give 4 sides outside the 8 a spot in the finals.... DEMETRIOU is just like ROGER GOODELL who runs the NFL, a power tripper who continually works on ways to #$%$ up a game this country has loved for over 100 years.... As a proud club member i never ever thought i would utter the words, I'M LOSING INTEREST...... SAD BUT TRUE
