Troubled Melbourne forward Liam Jurrah has reportedly walked out on the Demons and is keen to continue his career at an Adelaide AFL club.

According to the Fairfax press, Jurrah has told Melbourne he does not wish to stay at the club after a horror season where he's played just one match and suffered a broken ankle, although his on-field exploits have been far outweighed by serious assault charges hanging over his head following an alleged altercation in Alice Springs last March.

Jurrah faced the Northern Territory Supreme Court on Monday via videolink, with the court setting a trial date for the alleged assault of March 12 2013.

Jurrah, though, will remain living in Adelaide with his family ahead of the trial, prompting his management to suggest a move to one of the South Australian clubs.

"At this point in time family is number one for Liam and they are based in Adelaide," Jurrah's manager Ned Guy told ''The Age''.

"Does he want to continue playing football? Yes he does.

"He is still very passionate about footy because he loves the game and he understands it can make a difference to his people and culture."

Although Port Adelaide are still without a coach for the upcoming AFL season, the Power have not completely rejected the notion of having Jurrah in their team if he is acquitted by the trial.

"Liam is living in Adelaide and is seeking an opportunity to continue his football career here," said Port Adelaide football manager Peter Rohde in a statement on the club website.

"At this point we have had only limited contact with Liam's management, but we think he is a very talented player.

"He is working through some complicated issues which we are keen to better understand before making any decision regarding our interest in bringing him to Port Adelaide."
