Western Bulldogs midfielder Mitch Wallis has signed a two-year contract extension which will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2015.

The 19-year-old, fresh from a standout performance against Geelong in Round 22, was contracted for next year but has already put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him locked at the club.

Wallis, son of former Bulldogs captain Steve, said he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a leader at Whitten Oval.

"It is a dream (to captain the club)," Wallis told the club's website.

"But you don't think about that. You think of small steps first... just bringing the group closer together so we play as mates, is the direction I'm trying to take the club.

"I think leadership's a part of my game and how I play and how I prepare, but I've got to learn a lot before I start demanding of others.

"But it is part and parcel of who I am, so hopefully it'll be ingrained in me for years to come."

Wallis has averaged 22.5 disposals and just over four tackles per game this season, gathering an equal career-high 29 possessions in the 34-point loss to Geelong on Sunday.
