'Something for Mrs Selwood to handle'

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has claimed the AFL Match Review Panel must be 'taking the piss' in reprimanding Geelong midfielder Joel Selwood for a push on his brother Adam.

The MRP have cited Joel for misconduct after he pushed his older brother while the Eagles defender was lying on the ground, after the two were involved in a heavy collision in the Cats' defeat at Patersons Stadium last Friday night.

Speaking to ''SEN'' on Monday night, Hardwick claimed the incident was something for 'Mrs Selwood' to handle and did not hide his surprise when informed of the MRP's decision.

"They're taking the piss, aren't they? Surely," Hardwick said.

The MRP have claimed that Joel 'made unnecessary or unreasonable contact with an injured player' and viewed the incident as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point), drawing a total of 80 demerit points.

But with Joel's recent poor record the total was increased by 40 percent to 112 points and a one-match suspension.

An early guilty plea will allow him to play this week against St Kilda but the Geelong captain will carry over 84 demerit points on his record.

While Cats coach Chris Scott has conceded the club might accept Selwood's punishment to avoid a suspension, Hardwick claimed he would fight the charge at the tribunal if it was one of his players.

"I think sanity will prevail in that one and he'll be fine," Hardwick said.

"Surely sanity will prevail."

The MRP's chairman Mark Fraser has defended the charge, claiming the push was reckless considering the opposition player was lying injured on the ground.

Fraser argued that Joel should have realised his push had potential to exacerbate any serious injuries Adam may have received in the earlier bump.

Good thing he didn't call him a #$%$ M O while he was pushing him or he would have got a week and fined three grand. This is idiotic. Or is it just shiny bums in offices trying to justify their positions.

Do Scott and Hardwick have nothing else to do every week than to complain about this and that, maybe if you got on with your job and saved your talk for the real reason you were employed you would do a better job !!!!
