Blight joins Suns coaching team

Two-time premiership coach Malcolm Blight has taken on a part-time role as director of coaching with Gold Coast.

The Suns have had a dismal 2012 campaign, losing all 13 games to sit bottom of the AFL ladder.

The club re-signed coach Guy McKenna for a further two seasons in May, at a time when their record was 0-8.

Blight will stand down from his position as a director on the Suns' board in order to accept the position, and the 1978 Brownlow medallist said he was excited by the challenge of turning around the club's on-field fortunes.

''I'm looking forward to helping Guy out,'' Blight said.

''Hopefully we can get a feel for what we need in terms of a structure for the football department going forward.''

Blight coached Geelong in three losing grand finals, before winning back-to-back flags with Adelaide in 1997/98.

His last involvement in coaching was an ill-fated stint at St Kilda in 2001.

Good news. Blighty is one of most intelligent commentators. Hope he does it for the Suns. They need all the help they can get.
