The massive hint that Luke Hodge is playing on?

Hawthorn legend Luke Hodge was an interesting omission from the pre-game motorcade of retiring players at the AFL Grand Final.

The former Hawks captain and four-time premiership player has confirmed he is in discussions with Brisbane about extending his playing career.

The motorcade around the MCG boundary featured all-time greats such as Nick Riewoldt, Bob Murphy and Sam Mitchell.

Brent Harvey and Jimmy Bartel, who retired after last year's grand final, were also in the motorcade.

Hodge revealed to Channel 7 that he is seriously considering continuing his career with the Lions.

Brisbane are coached by Chris Fagan, who worked at the Hawks for much of Hodge's career.

"He knew I was still passionate about playing footy," Hodge said.

"I think both parties are interested."

Hodge, a former captain of Hawthorn, took on a greater interest in coaching throughout 2017 as the club put games into young players.

"I think that's what was so appealing for me when Fages said 'would you be interested?'" Hodge said.

"They've got a good young list, but that's the thing -- they're young. I found last year with the Hawks' younger guys, I'd say stuff that I just took for granted over 16 years and they'd say 'oh, I never really thought of that'. So that's the appealing thing."

Lions footy boss David Noble also confirmed the club's interest on Wednesday night.

“We are keen to explore the possibility of Luke playing for our Club with his manager in the coming days," Noble said on the club's website.

"Luke’s ability to assist with developing and nurturing our emerging group as an additional on field leader would be a great help to us."

Hodge retired from the AFL with 305 games and four premierships under his belt.
