Hamstrung Murphy to undergo knee surgery

The Western Bulldogs have doubled up Bob Murphy's injury status after the captain suffered a hamstring strain on Saturday afternoon.

Murphy sat out the last few minutes of the Dogs' win over St Kilda at Etihad Stadium before celebrating the victory with his teammates.

He is now set for three or four weeks on the sidelines and will undergo a knee arthroscopy.

The 34-year-old suffered a torn ACL in round three last year, putting him out for the season as the Bulldogs went on to win the grand final.

“Our assessment over the last 24 hours has confirmed that Bob has a moderate-grade hamstring injury,” Bulldogs doctor Chris Bell said.

“We’re also going to use this time while he’s in rehab to perform a quick arthroscopic cleanout on his knee, to address some of the minor signs of wear and tear he’s had.”

Small forward Clay Smith was a late out against the Saints and is expected to miss two weeks with a calf complaint.

Meanwhile, defender Marcus Adams has re-signed with the club on a three-year deal.

The 23-year-old flirted with a trade home to Western Australia at the end of last season but stayed to honour the final season of his original two-year contract.

Adams didn't play after round 15 last year due to multiple injuries, missing the club's finals campaign.

He has played every game this season since round two.

The Bulldogs are on a bye this weekend.
