Cameron 'disappointed' by umpires' preconceived ideas of Greene

GWS coach Leon Cameron says it "would be disappointing" if AFL umpires had preconceived ideas regarding under-fire Giants forward Toby Greene.

Greene was reported for striking Caleb Daniel in last night's win over the Bulldogs in Canberra.

He was cleared of headbutting Sydney's Isaac Heeney last week, having already earned fines for incidents in the pre-season and round four.

Cameron said in the lead-up to Friday's clash that he had spoken to Greene with regards to his moments of madness but it now appears the Giants can expect a suspension for the All Australian forward.

The incident with Daniel raised eyebrows around the AFL community because the umpire, Shaun Ryan, told Greene they had been watching him.

“We’ve been telling you for a couple of weeks now that you’re getting very close to the edge," Ryan said, with the comments picked up on the Channel 7 broadcast.

While Cameron told ABC radio that Greene was "98 per cent ... very, very good" and had "two per cent to keep working on", he was concerned by the umpire's comments.

"That would be disappointing if you're going in with a preconceived idea about a particular player because of his previous couple of weeks," Cameron said.

"I'll have a look at that today and if there is something to discuss with (umpires boss) Peter Schwab then we'll have a discussion about it on Monday."

Cameron's comments were in stark contrast to Bulldogs veteran Dale Morris.

Morris, who missed last night's game with a leg injury, told Fox Sports News this morning that he was all for umpire's paying more attention.

"It shows the umpires are doing their due diligence and that they’re reviewing games each week, looking for trends and looking for players that they might need to have a closer eye on," Morris said.

"I reckon it’s great and it’s great to hear that insight from the umpires. We only see them officiating the game, so it’s great to see them looking at trends in the game."
