'He's fat': McGuire's brutal response to Fev comeback talk

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has responded to a petition calling for retired AFL player Brendan Fevola to make a comeback with the Magpies.

The petition is doing the rounds online, trying to get Collingwood and Fevola to join forces after the Pies' woeful 1-4 start to the season.

Triple M's Mick Molloy put it to McGuire that there is space in the Collingwood forward line for Fev.

"No, not for him there's not!" McGuire responded.

"Fev sticking his head in yesterday saying he should make a comeback at Collingwood...I got my coat pulled here yesterday.

"Couldn't wedge him between the sticks big Fev at the moment...he's fat."

The petition, started by Nathan Guy, had over 1300 signatures on Friday.

Fevola, who kicked 623 goals in his 204-game career, admitted he wasn't in the best shape.

"I sort of laughed at it at the start but then I got thinking," Fevola said. "This is for now so obviously it can't happen because they've got their list. You can't come in and play and I'm as fat as a house and not very fit. I get puffed walking down the hallway. So obviously it can't happen today.

"But I sat down with (wife) Alex last night having a beverage over dinner and I said: Seriously, if I started training now, they got me fit, I got myself fit, and went there and did a pre-season, go on a rookie list, have a chat with Eddie ... it would be for the start of next year so I've got nearly a full season to get myself fit, which I can do because I've been fit before.

"Go on a rookie list, cos them $30 or $40 (thousand), cost them no money.

"They put me on a rookie list, I play twos (VFL), they get an injury and I go up into the ones. What a story.

"I started my career wearing a Collingwood jumper for Narre Warren. Imagine, the way I exited the game, which is obviously not the way I wanted to exit because I got sacked twice, all those young, stupid things are in the past. Come back and play a season of AFL, why not? End my career in a Collingwood jumper."

Collingwood have been far and away the worst team in front of goal so far this season and Fev reckons he can help.

"I think I could play better than some of the blokes that are out there now," he said on FoxFM on Thursday morning.

"I don't get nervous. These young kids (go) out there, they get a little bit nervous.

"If there's 60,000 people there I'll kick six, if there’s 70,000 I'll kick seven. If you play for a crap team and there's 10,000 there I’ll only kick one because you want to perform for the supporters.

"I put bums on seats.

"Touch wood, my body is in good nick injury-wise.

"I'd kick 70 goals. I'd kick 70 goals without even training, imagine if I did train."
