The moment Taranto finds out dad is flying 15,000km to watch his debut

It’s the moment every kid dreams of when they first pick up a Sherrin, making your debut for an AFL club.

Much-hyped youngster and No.2 draft pick Tim Taranto will realise that dream this week when GWS Giants take on Adelaide on Sunday in the opening round of the 2017 AFL season.

It’s a moment of joy for a youngster, a reward for the hard work and commitment it takes to reach such a level.

It is also a moment to thank the people who got you there, who supported you.

These calls happen regularly now, players calling their parents to tell them of their debuts. They normally result in teary calls of joy, parents even more excited than their children, so proud of what their sons and daughters have achieved.

But the tables were turned in this especially lovely call.

Taranto rang his father, who lives on the other side of the world in Texas.

Taranto Sr is obviously chuffed when he hears the news but it is Taranto Jr who goes to water when his dad tells him that he is actually flying over for his son’s debut.

He will be at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday to watch his son play his first senior game of AFL football.

“Far out, that’s awesome, oh my god,” Taranto Jr says after finding out.

“I’m actually shaking, oh wow.”

Good luck, Tim.
