'It will be the last time we play you in China'

Port Adelaide president David Koch has put one foot down in the fight for Chinese supremacy with the Gold Coast Suns.

The clubs will play for premiership points at Jiangwan Stadium in Shanghai in round eight, with the Power leading the charge.

But a significant hurdle remains, one that Koch believes is "distracting on the absolute historic event" of playing in China.

The AFL considers Gold Coast the home team because Port Adelaide paid the expansion club a significant fee to shift a game from Metricon Stadium.

That means the Suns should be wearing their red and yellow guernsey, which could endear the Queensland-based side to Chinese fans - something Koch is heavily against.

"We bought all home club commercial and otherwise rights for this game," Koch told the Adelaide-based FiveAA radio.

"It is as simple as that. The AFL is going to have to rule on that. Gold Coast is playing silly buggers."

While Koch is prepared to let the governing body have the final word, he has given Suns chairman Tony Cochrane a serious ultimatum.

"We are the club that is leading the AFL into China," he said.

"We are the ones who are committed for the next 10 years to play a game in China each year. We had a number of other clubs that wanted to play us this year and there is no shortage of clubs that want to leverage our work in China.

"As I have said to Tony Cochrane, if you wear the red and gold jumper, it will be the last time we will play you in China. It is up to you."
