Bulldogs veteran reveals he played with broken back

The only thing more incredible than the revelation Dale Morris played the AFL grand final with a broken back, was how nonchalant the Bulldogs player spoke about it.

Morris was quizzed about reports he’d suffered the serious injury, following the Dogs’ remarkable drought-breaking grand final win against the Sydney Swans.

When asked to confirm that he had broken his back six weeks ago, Morris simply told Channel 7, “I’ve had some injuries yes.”

But the 229 game club veteran didn’t get off that easily, and when asked a second time whether he’d broken his back, Morris was a little more forthcoming.

“I may have in the last game against Freo but who cares!”

The revelation explains why the Bulldogs veteran has been training away from the rest of his teammates, but incredibly, the injury did little to limit his impact in the decider.

Morris had 15 disposals, made four tackles and took two contested marks, as well as setting up a match-defining goal to Tom Boyd thanks to a tackle on Buddy Franklin.
