Mitchell reveals five-year-old's brutal grand final sledge

Sam Mitchell was still coming to terms with losing the 2012 grand final when a five-year-old hit him with the ultimate sledge.

Sydney prevailed by 10 points in the decider, with Mitchell giving away a critical 50 metre penalty in the third quarter after failing to give the ball back to Jarrad McVeigh properly.

It was a key moment that Swans and Hawks fans will always remember.

And barely a day later, the midfielder received some unexpected feedback from a very unlikely source.

"Our fitness coach — who is a great friend of mine and has been my fitness coach for 10 years — his son Jasper said 'you cost us the game yesterday'," Mitchell told AFL 360.

"That was the day after the game and he was about five or six years old."

"I don't know if you're watching Jasper, but it still stings me."

Mitchell also reflected on the 50 metre penalty.

"I threw it and I should have handpassed it," he said.
