'That's about as deliberate as it gets'
The AFL's most controversial rule reared its ugly head again when Richmond's Brett Deledio somehow got away with a deliberate out of bounds against Essendon.
The Tigers star had the ball inside his defensive 50 in the second quarter on Saturday when he was trapped by a defender and had no other option but to handball straight towards the sideline.
CRUEL BLOW: Deledio injured as Richmond beat Bombers
The ball went out of bounds with no other player in the immediate vicinity, but the umpires inexplicably called for a throw in.
"That's about as deliberate as it gets," said Jason Dunstall in commentary.
"Even all the players think it's a free kick."
Sadly for the Bombers the call didn't go their way this time and they went on to suffer a narrow defeat.
