Five key points from AFL round 6

THE GWS GIANTS ARE LEGIT

This was the year the Giants were supposed to break through and make the top eight. They might just do more than that.

Beating Hawthorn is one thing, but the Giants outplayed the defending premiers on every inch of Spotless Stadium, with a well balanced display across the board.

The Giants won the contested possessions 153-114 and contested marks 20-6, sending a message to the rest of the AFL, that not only can they mix it with the big boys, they can give them a hiding when they're firing on all cylinders.

STEVO'S STING: Richmond must accept reality and begin rebuild

WELCOME BACK DALE THOMAS

It's been a horror few seasons for Daisy at Carlton, but against the Bombers, he reminded the league just how good he can be when he's healthy.

Daisy racked up 31 touches, 14 contested possessions, six marks, seven tackles and a goal. A complete performance from the high-price midfielder.

The 28-year-old set the tone for the Blues win, coming out aggressively in the opening term and giving his young teammates a blueprint to follow for the game.

Easily his best game in a blue jumper, hopefully for Thomas he can string a few together this season and consistently provide that type of leadership for this young group.

SHOULD THOMAS EXPECT PUNISHMENT?

Was it an attempted tackle, or a WWE coathanger?

The MRP will look at Lindsay Hunter's hit on Lachie Hunter and decide whether the Roos midfielder deserves some time on the sideline.

The swinging arm looks bad, but it was more reckless than the malicious hit Bulldogs players suggested is was after the game.

One week for Hunter?

GABBA GOAL-LINE FARCE

"Yep, let's send that one upstairs.......to where?"

The NRL is dealing with their own questionable review situation, but the AFL could be heading to even more levels of outcry following Sunday's events at the Gabba.

Lance Franklin's shot on goal was ruled touched by Brisbane's Claye Beams, but with no clear goal-line shot available, there was really no way to tell. So what's the point?

The Swans snuck home by three points, but imagine if that goal was the difference. The AFL must address the gaps between stadiums and ensure that if there is a system in place, its uniform.

CLANGER OF THE WEEK

In case you missed it, just have a look at this!

Adelaide's Tom Lynch got his afternoon off to a shocking start, strolling in on goal without a defender in sight, it seemed to good to be true.

And it was.

Lynch sprayed this one from two metres out across the face of goal to miss everything. He dusted himself off and finished the game with two goals, 19 disposals and seven marks.
