The Fremantle Dockers have revealed 21-year-old midfielder Anthony Morabito will undergo LARS surgery on his troublesome left knee.

Morabito has missed the past two seasons due to repeated anterior cruciate ligament injuries in his left knee, which required full reconstructions and suffered yet another setback last week when he injured himself during pre-season training.

While reports had suggested Morabito might retire from football, having played just 23 AFL games, Fremantle's general manager of football operations Chris Bond has revealed the former Peel Thunder midfielder will undergo the alternative LARS procedure to try and save his career.

"Anthony really just needed some time and space to weigh up his surgery options," Bond said in a written statement released by Fremantle on Wednesday.

"After discussions with people close to him, the football club and medical experts, Anthony has decided that this surgery will give him the best chance to resume his playing career."

The surgery is set to be performed in Sydney early next week.
