Reports have indicated Kurt Tippett is set to sign a two-year deal with the Sydney Swans after being selected in the AFL's pre-season draft, which starts at 11:00 am on Tuesday morning.

Tippett looks likely to be taken with selection No.11 by the reigning premiers despite having an 11-game suspension hanging over his head for his role in salary cap breaches by his former club Adelaide.

According to the ''Herald-Sun'',the AFL have confirmed that Tippett will not be allowed to play at any level during his suspension, meaning he may have to play in the NEAFL to gain some match fitness from Round 12 onwards next year.

Meanwhile, AFL identity Peter 'Crackers' Keenan believes taking Tippett in the pre-season draft may be the biggest mistake the Sydney Swans have made in the history of the club.

"Rumour has it, the Sydney people who pride themselves on culture do not want a mercenary in their midst," wrote Keenan in his weekly column for ''Yahoo7''.

"In all intents and purposes, I know he's big and he plays forward. But he's never been much good in the ruck and if he misses the first couple of marks of the game, he's a liability.

"But they are going to pay a king's ransom for a person who his team-mates won't embrace because they have this culture of sharing and caring and dying for each other.

"Tippett has proved that he's not dying for anybody. The only thing he's dying for is to get money in the bank. He's a product of our time but will he embrace the Swans' code of conduct. I think not.

"It's probably the worst move the Swans have ever made.

"It just seems to me that he sold the Swans a story and I think they've made the biggest mistake they've ever made in the history of the club.

"Time will tell."
