The AFL won't take action against Fremantle over the controversial late inclusion of ruckman Aaron Sandilands, it announced Tuesday night.
Sandilands was called into Fremantle's line-up to face Richmond on Saturday at the 11th hour when fellow ruckman Jon Griffin withdrew after tweaking his groin in the warm-up.
The switch was made after official team sheets had been lodged 90 minutes before the start of the match and this can only occur in the event of an injury or illness to a player that is not pre-existing.
There was speculation the Dockers had planned to include Sandilands all along.
But AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said the AFL had received a medical certificate on Griffin's condition from the club medical staff, along with a copy of his MRI report, which confirmed the injury happened in the warm-up.
"Following consultation with the AFL medical commissioners the AFL is satisfied with the explanation provided and no further action will be taken," Anderson said.
