Collingwood's Chris Dawes has admitted he has been lucky to avoid being dropped from the Magpies line-up after his poor form over the first 14 rounds of the season.

The 24-year-old key forward kicked three goals in the Magpies' 29-point victory over Fremantle on Saturday to take his season total up to just seven.

Saturday's win was Collingwood's 10th in a row and Dawes has conceded it is 'about time I started pulling my weight' and has praised his team-mates for carrying him through a tough period.

"Almost every player on our list has played above average and I'm probably the one exception to that," Dawes said on Tuesday.

After finishing last season with 27 goals at an average of 1.5 per game, Dawes' goal tally in 2012 is well below par.

The big forward is also down on marks per game from 4.5 in 2011 to 3.9 this year.

Dawes believes he has been a bit fortunate Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has continued to pick him.

"If a player's put in as many, what I would consider, below average performances then, yeah, certainly," Dawes said.

"But then you've also got to look at the role that I play in the team, which is one that we probably don't quite have anyone else who can do that at the moment.

"Jackson Paine's coming along but that target that I provide and that ability to provide a contest, I haven't been great but I still don't think I've quite warranted dropping out of the side, especially as I now can play in the ruck a bit."

Speaking prior to the Magpies' Friday night clash with Carlton, Dawes revealed Collingwood's Round 3 loss to the Blues, which was their most recent defeat, was a 'springboard' for their dominant run since.

Dawes confirmed that Collingwood want to settle the scores.

"Certainly the players who played in that Round 3 match can look at that and say that 'we weren't happy with the performance we put in that night' and use this as a bit of a chance for redemption," Dawes said.

Meanwhile, Dawes said Scott Pendlebury, Chris Tarrant and Alan Didak are all in the mix to return from injury on Friday night.
