Cavaliers' Kevin Love plays the good soldier after tense team meeting

The Cavaliers have lost six of their last eight games and frustrations reportedly came to a head Monday in a heated team meeting.

According to reports, Kevin Love absorbed the most criticism during the meeting, but decided to take the high road Tuesday when asked about the incident.

“Did I feel like a target? I think everybody, most people were a target. We’re trying to figure this thing out,” Love said. “For us, it’s not about me. I’m not going to make it about myself. I’m sure with other guys it’s the same thing.”

Love left Saturday’s loss to the Thunder after playing just three minutes and missed Sunday’s practice with an undisclosed illness. His absence apparently rubbed his teammates the wrong way.

For what it’s worth, head coach Tyronn Lue backed Love.

“If the training staff says Kevin’s sick and he’s out, he’s sick and he’s out. I don’t think anyone on our team is a doctor, none of the players, so you can’t speak for what the training staff says,” Lue said Tuesday. “And of course, throughout the course of the season, he’s human. Everyone’s human. There’s going to be other guys who get sick and be down and out too.”

Love has had three games of three or fewer points (including Saturday) in Cleveland’s recent skid after having just two such games prior. Since the calendar turned to 2018, Love is shooting just 38.8 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from 3-point range.

“For me, the thing I’ve always done is kept my mouth shut, and I continue to work hard and try to do best for the Cavs,” Love said. “That’s all I can do tonight and moving forward these last 35, 40 games.”

Cleveland (27-18) has a tough test Tuesday on the road against the Spurs (30-18).
