Ravindra Jadeja is in doubt for the first Test between India and South Africa, but Shikhar Dhawan has been declared fit to play.

According to a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) statement, spinning all-rounder Jadeja has been suffering from a viral illness and will be taken to hospital.

He is expected to recover in 48 hours, with a decision on his availability for the opening match of the series to be taken early on Friday, when the fixture at Newlands is due to begin.

Opening batsman Dhawan, though, has fully recovered from a minor ankle injury ahead of the contest in Cape Town, which is the first of three Tests between the teams.

South Africa and India are also due to play six one-day internationals and three Twenty20 internationals.
