MLB free agency rumors: Rangers make pitch to Shohei Ohtani

The Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes is in full swing the past few days, with his December 22 deadline looming.

The Japanese sensation, who can hit and pitch, cut his list of potential teams over the weekend, sending MLB into a frenzy trying to figure out which team would acquire his services.

Early reports suggested that Ohtani was only looking at West Coast teams or small-market organizations, but the Cubs and Rangers appear to be possible exceptions. According to the Star-Telegram, the Rangers made their pitch Tuesday.

The report stated that Texas sent an eight-man team to speak with Ohtani, led by co-owner Ray Davis, general manager Jon Daniels and manager Jeff Banister.

Ohtani is also reportedly considering the Angels, Mariners, Giants, Cubs, Dodgers and Padres. He has until December 22 to sign with an MLB team.
