Half-man, half-eel referee becomes viral sensation

A wrestling referee in American has become an Internet sensation after hilarious footage of his eel-like movement went viral.

The video posted by Twitter user @Cams_hungry2 has garnered 97,000 likes in just a few days and it's easy to see why.

The comical footage shows the official performing his bizarre technique at a high school wrestling competition in San Benito, Texas.

In a completely unnatural demonstration of sideways movement, the referee can be seen slithering across the gym floor like some kind of serpent.

With his left shoulder to the ground and his hands by his side, the ref slithers across the floor with the speed and stealth of an eel, in order to get a better look at the competing wrestlers.

Cheers can be heard in the background as the two wrestlers continue to battle it out but the star of the show is undoubtedly the serpentine official.

It's not the first time we've seen a sporting official go viral, with this boundary umpire gaining national headlines in March for his insane speed.

Like any good viral video, it's also spawned a series of hilarious copycat attempts and random animal clips that resemble the snake-like star.
