Gabby Douglas apologizes for 'victim shaming' Olympic teammate Aly Raisman after sexual abuse allegations

U.S. Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas received criticism Friday for appearing to "victim shame" teammate Aly Raisman, who previously shared allegations about sexual abuse by a Team USA doctor.

Raisman made headlines earlier this week by detailing how she was sexually abused years ago by USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. She first made the allegations in August. Nassar has denied dozens of allegations of sexual abuse, but is currently in jail after pleading guilty on child pornography charges.

Raisman tweeted a lengthy message Friday in an effort to stop victim shaming, and then Douglas replied tweeting, “It is our responsibility as women to dress modestly and be classy. Dressing in a provocative/sexual way entices the wrong crowd.”

The tweet has since been deleted, but not before being ripped on social media.

Team USA gymnast Simone Biles lashed out at Douglas, tweeting, "honestly seeing this brings me to tears bc as your teammate I expected more from you & to support her."

Later in the day, Douglas clarified her remark, saying "abuse under any circumstance is never acceptable."
