Giants' Brandon Marshall carted off field, ruled out with ankle injury

Giants receivers are dropping like flies.

New York wide receiver Brandon Marshall was carted off the field with a left ankle injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Chargers, and fellow Giants receiver Sterling Shepard injured his left ankle a few plays earlier and also had to be helped off the field.

Marshall was taken to the locker room for further evaluation, as Shepard was being examined by the team’s medical staff on the sideline. The Giants announced both players have been ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The team's receiving corps had already been hurting, as Odell Beckham Jr. exited the Giants' Week 4 loss to the Buccaneers with an ankle injury and dislocated finger.

Marshall, 33, had 16 receptions for 139 yards entering Sunday's game. Shepard came into Sunday’s meeting as the Giants’ leading receiver with 254 yards and one touchdown.

The Chargers lead the Giants 10-9 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
