Raul Mondesi sentenced to eight years in prison for corruption

Former Dodgers All-Star, and 13-year MLB veteran, Raul Mondesi was sentenced to eight years in prison and fined 60 million pesos for his role in a corruption scandal in the Dominican Republic.

According to Hector Gomez of Deportivo Z 101, Mondesi served a six-year term as mayor of San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic from 2010-16.

During the 2010 election, Mondesi, 46, ran as part of the Dominican Liberation Party but later switched to the Dominican Revolutionary Party.

Mondesi played for the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Pirates, Angels, and Braves during his career. He earned the NL Rookie of the Year Award in 1994 with the Dodgers, as well as two Gold Glove Awards.

Mondesi's son, Raul A. Mondesi Jr., is currently is a member of the Royals organization.
