Fantasy Football Week 3 Rankings: Quarterback

Fantasy Football Week 3 Rankings: Quarterback

Are you sold on Alex Smith, Trevor Siemian and Carson Wentz as the top three fantasy football quarterbacks after the first two weeks? Probably not (although we did like Wentz as one of our preseason sleepers). The big guns at the quarterback position were back last week, as Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers all finished in the top six. This week, as you can see in our Week 3 QB rankings, we expect them to make it back-to-back appearances in the upper-QB1 tier.

Cam Newton, despite scoring fewer than 30 total fantasy points against the subpar defenses of the 49ers and Bills, plays the cures-all-fantasy-woes Saints defense at home, so expect his first big performance of the year. Similar with Newton, we're not ready to give up on Kirk Cousins against a weak Raiders secondary that allowed two TDs to Josh McCown last week.

For those in two-QB leagues with Blake Bortles and Joe Flacco, remember that they play in London on Sunday with kickoff set for 9:30 am ET.

WEEK 3 RANKINGS:

7
Derek Carr, Raiders @ Redskins. The Redskins defense has given up the fifth-most passing yards, and Josh Norman is banged up (but expected to play). Carr, who's averaging near 20 points a game, looks like a healthy play.

Week 3 Fantasy Football Rankings: QBs

7
Derek Carr, Raiders @ Redskins. The Redskins defense has given up the fifth-most passing yards, and Josh Norman is banged up (but expected to play). Carr, who's averaging near 20 points a game, looks like a healthy play.

These rankings are for standard leagues with 6-point passing TDs.

1

Aaron Rodgers, Packers vs. Bengals. On a short week on the road, rookie Deshaun Watson was able to put up 18 fantasy points against the Bengals. Aaron Rodgers will have a field day at home.

2

Matt Ryan, Falcons @ Lions. The Lions current second-best fantasy D/ST is mostly thanks to Carson Palmer's and Eli Manning's woes. Matt Ryan should turn the Lions back to their 2016 defense, which allowed the second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.

3

Tom Brady, Patriots vs. Texans. You can say Brady's back or that Brady never left after his dominance over the Saints in Week 2, but either way, Brady will stay in the top-four among all fantasy QBs at home in Week 3. The Texans only have three sacks so far, and if/when the Texans give Brady all day to throw, he'll shred them.

4

Matthew Stafford, Lions vs. Falcons. So far, the Falcons pass defense has improved from last year's fifth-worst finish, but it hasn't improved enough to think Stafford can't have a big day. He's one of five QBs with 40 fantasy points, throwing multiple TDs in each game, and he should continue his fantasy success in Week 3.

5

Drew Brees, Saints @ Panthers. The Panthers haven't allowed a touchdown in two games, but Drew Brees has only had three games since 2012 without throwing a touchdown pass. Brees was able to put up 15 points against the Vikings, last year's top fantasy defense, so it's safe to think Brees can get that same amount or more this week, even with the game outdoors.

6

Cam Newton, Panthers vs. Saints. Newton gets his shot against the worst pass defense in the NFL, but, to be fair, he hasn't look too impressive against sub-par defenses. We think Newton is worth the start in your lineup, but don't be surprised if he doesn't put up as high of numbers as Sam Bradford and Tom Brady did.

7

Derek Carr, Raiders @ Redskins. The Redskins defense has given up the fifth-most passing yards, and Josh Norman is banged up (but expected to play). Carr, who's averaging near 20 points a game, looks like a healthy play.

8

Kirk Cousins, Redskins vs. Raiders. Out of all of last year's top 10 QBs, Cousins has disappointed the most. The Raiders have a weak secondary and have given up the seventh-most FPPG to QBs, though. At home, Cousins should break out of this early-season rut that has him outside the top 20 among QBs right now.

9

Carson Wentz, Eagles vs. Giants. entz has lived up to the sleeper hype that some, like us, predicted. He has the third-most fantasy points among QBs, and he's done it on the road against a top defense in Kansas City and at home against the Redskins. The Giants, despite their 0-2 record, still have a strong defense. The Eagles are extremely pass-heavy, throwing nearly 70 percent of the time (fourth-most), and Wentz is benefiting from it in a major way.

10

Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers @ Bears. Roethlisberger is known for his road woes, but he did fine (15.7 points) at the Browns, and the Bears are not much better. The Bears have averaged 15 points to opposing QBs, so Roethlisberger can be counted on this week, despite it being a road game.

11

Dak Prescott, Cowboys @ Cardinals. Against one of the toughest defenses, Prescott was forced to throw more often than normal thanks an inept running game. He threw two interceptions, but he also just missed a top-10 QB fantasy week by 0.2 points, so it was still an overall solid performance. The Cardinals have given up the fourth-most points to opposing QBs this season, so Prescott is worth the start.

12

Russell Wilson, Seahawks @ Titans. So far, Wilson hasn't look all that impressive. He struggled against the Packers, and then barely squeaked Seattle past the 49ers. Although it didn't look pretty, Wilson was less than a full point away from a top-10 week. The Titans defense has improved, but they still have holes that Wilson can exploit.

13

Jameis Winston, Bucs @ Vikings. After taking a 26-0 lead into halftime in Week 2, he Bucs cruised (and ran) their way to victory, with Ryan Fitzpatrick even getting a chance to play. Winston got most of his 12.5 fantasy points in the first half, so last week shouldn't scare you away from starting Winston. The Vikings defense can be tough, but their defense is actually in the top 10 for most FPPG to opposing QBs.

14

Philip Rivers, Chargers vs. Chiefs. Rivers posted back-to-back 19-plus-point fantasy days, and he's looked good with Keenan Allen back on the field. The Chiefs, a normally strong defense, are averaging -- guess what -- almost 20 fantasy points to opposing QBs, ranking sixth-highest. It's still a tough draw for Rivers, but he's had success in the past, so he can be counted on if needed this week.

15

Jay Cutler, Dolphins @ Jets. Cutler didn't look bad, but he didn't look great either against the Chargers. He should fare well against the Jets, but he's nothing more than a streaming option if absolutely necessary.

16

Marcus Mariota, Titans vs. Seahawks. The Seahawks held the high-powered Packers offense to 17 points and 49ers QB Brian Hoyer to two fantasy points. Mariota has the skills to put up a solid fantasy day, but we won't be counting on it. The strong Seahawks secondary will likely cause fits for Mariota, who managed a top-20 QB day against Jacksonville in Week 2.

17

Trevor Siemian, Broncos @ Bills. He's posted back-to-back top-four fantasy QB weeks. Can he do it a third straight week? We're still leaning on the doubtful side, since the Bills have held opposing QBs to under 12 points each week, but we're watching what he does.

18

Alex Smith, Chiefs @ Chargers.

19

Eli Manning, Giants @ Eagles.

20

Andy Dalton, Bengals @ Packers.

21

Carson Palmer, Cardinals vs. Cowboys.

22

Tyrod Taylor, Bills vs. Broncos.

23

Joe Flacco, Ravens vs. Jaguars (in London)

24

Jared Goff, Rams @ 49ers.

25

Deshone Kizer, Browns @ Colts

26

Case Keenum, Vikings vs. Bucs.

27

Josh McCown, Jets vs. Dolphins.

28

Blake Bortles, Jaguars vs. Ravens (in London)

29

Deshaun Watson, Texans @ Patriots.

30

Jacoby Brissett, Colts vs. Browns.

31

Brian Hoyer, 49ers vs. Rams.

32

Mike Glennon, Bears vs. Steelers.
