Felix eyeing London glory after 'everything went wrong' last year

Allyson Felix is ready to banish the memories of a painful 2016 in which "everything went wrong" by adding to her phenomenal medal haul at the IAAF World Championships in London.

Felix became America's most decorated track and field athlete of all time at the Rio Olympics last year, but that achievement was bittersweet.

The 31-year-old agonisingly missed out on gold in a dramatic 400 metres final in Brazil when Shaunae Miller-Uibo lunged across the finishing line to snatch the title.

Felix narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 200m Olympic team after recovering from an ankle injury that put her 2016 season in doubt, but was still able to head home with two relay gold medals and a 400m silver.

The California native has 13 World Championships medals – nine of which are gold – and is hungry for more in London, where she will attempt to defend her 400m title.

Felix said: "Last year everything went wrong, nothing went according to plan but that happens. I was not thinking of that going into this season. I am just focusing on my own goals now and defending my title.

"I don't think about the medals' tally and what that means in history. I just focus on the new season. Later I will sit back and appreciate everything, I will worry about looking at all of it later."

She added: "Training has been going really well. I feel I am reaching my peak at the right time. I am excited and looking forward to getting started."

Felix also be eyeing relay glory in 4x100m and 4x400m.
