Philander discharged from hospital, cleared to play

Vernon Philander will be fit to take the field for day three of South Africa's third Test with England after being discharged from hospital.

The seamer was admitted to hospital on Friday for a viral infection and was a doubt ahead of the third day's play at The Oval - where South Africa are 126-8 in reply to England's 353.

Having left the field earlier in the day, Philander was the only man not to bat as they crumbled against England's attack.

However, he will be ready as and when required on Saturday after Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed he had left hospital.

"Some positive news from The Oval this morning," a brief CSA statement read. "Vernon Philander has been discharged from hospital and is available to bat."
