Open champion Spieth drinks from Claret Jug again

What bad luck? Jordan Spieth had no hesitation in celebrating his Open triumph by drinking from the Claret Jug once again.

The American completed a brilliant win at Royal Birkdale on Sunday, staging a recovery to earn a three-stroke victory and third major title.

Spieth drank wine from the Claret Jug after Zach Johnson's win in 2015, and was told it was bad luck.

However, he proved that theory wrong with his latest win – which left him just the US PGA Championship shy of a career Grand Slam.

And the 23-year-old decided to drink from the Claret Jug once again as good friend and world number 13 Justin Thomas recorded his countryman on Snapchat.

"What'd you got there, sir?" Thomas asked as Spieth drank. "How's it taste?"

Spieth replied: "Fantastic."

That cannot be doubted, particularly after a manic five-hole stretch on the back nine that saw Spieth go bogey-birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie.
