NFL free agency: Three possible fits for newly released WR Jeremy Maclin

The Chiefs shockingly released wide receiver Jeremy Maclin on Friday to free up their financial situation.

With a little over three months still remaining before the start of the regular season, and less than two months before NFL teams open training camp, Maclin should have no trouble finding a new team.

Here are three teams that could use Maclin's services next season.

Bears — Yes, they signed a plethora of free agents this offseason, including Victor Cruz, Kendall Wright and Markus Wheaton, but the Bears need game changers. Kevin White should be back in the mix, but two years of injuries leaves his career muddled at best.

Last year's breakout sensation Cameron Meredith is expected to take over departed Alshon Jeffery's place as the team's No. 1 receiver. If White is unable to reach his full potential, or gets injured again, Maclin could be a suitable option to line up opposite Meredith, presenting Mike Glennon with an experienced target.

Saints — Maclin would truly be a luxury for Sean Payton's explosive offense, but a second glance at New Orleans' depth chart shows this team is dangerously thin at wide receiver.

The Saints signed Ted Ginn Jr. to offset the loss of Brandin Cooks, and Michael Thomas proved he's a bona fide No. 1 receiver as a rookie last year, but Willie Snead and unproven Brandon Coleman are the other likely receivers to get playing time this season.

Payton may be enticed to add Maclin to Drew Brees' arsenal, and let him air it out to two deep threats.

Ravens — The Ravens largely failed to address their glaring need at wide receiver during the draft. They may have just been gifted a second chance. Maclin would not only provide insurance for the inconsisent Mike Wallace and oft-injured Breshad Perriman, he could become the team's No. 1 threat.

The Ravens are close to contending in the AFC, but they need to score more points on a consistent basis. Maclin comes with his own set of injury risks, but his upside is still worth the risk for a Baltimore team short on options.
