Double leg break gymnast makes stunning comeback

The French gymnast whose Rio Olympic Games were destroyed by a gruesome broken leg has completed a remarkable turnaround with footage showing his stunning progress in training.

Viewers from all over the world were left horrifed in August last year as Samir Ait Said suffered a double leg fracture at the Rio Olympics.

Ait Said fell to the mat in agony clutching the back of his knee and the lower part of his leg, which visibly flopped to one side to gasps of horror from the crowd.

He was treated by medical staff for several minutes before being stretchered off to applause from the crowd.

At the time, Ait Said vowed that he would return to the sport for a tilt at the 2020 Olympic Games.

“Believe me, the Tokyo 2020 adventure is still alive,” Said said shortly after the accident.

“As soon as I’m recovered, believe me, we’ll go back to training and we’ll go after those Olympics.”

On the evidence from the video above, the brave Frenchman's dream certainly seems like a distinct possibilty.

Ait Said completed his first forward sommersault during recent training exercises in a tremendous sign for his hopeful return to the top of the sport.

The Frenchman made the remarkable achievement just 286 days after suffering the horrifying double break.
