'No full stop': Inspiring 101-year-old woman wins 100m sprint

Indian woman Man Kaur has won gold at the World Masters Games, taking out the 100-metre sprint in over one minute.

The 101-year-old arrived from India last week to take part in four events at the event in Waitakere - 100 metres, 200 metres, shot put and javelin.

With the 100-metre sprint up first over the weekend, Kaur lined up at the same time as women in the 85-89 age category.

Those younger athletes quickly sped past Kaur but her legs kept moving, and she finished first in a time of one minute and 14.58 seconds.

"She is very happy being here and she feels like everybody is her son," her interpreter translated her as saying.

"Whatever he does, she does. She keeps herself busy and healthy with walking, running and cooking.

"While there is life, she will never give up - she loves to run."

Kaur received her medal from Ukrainian pole vault champion Sergey Bubka.

Remarkably, Kaur only took up the sport seven years ago when she was a 94-year-old.

Her son Gurdev Singh, who is in New Zealand competing in the 75-79 age group, suggested to his mother that she take up running while she had her health.

At this pace she'll be running for years to come.

"She is going to run again," her interpreter said.

"There is no full stop."
