Game abandoned at half time as Bastia fans attack Lyon players

Lyon's Ligue 1 match at Bastia was suspended at half-time after the visiting players were attacked by the opposition fans.

The game was initially delayed by almost an hour after a section of Bastia's supporters made their way onto the Stade Armand-Cesari pitch and confronted Lyon's players in troubling scenes while Bruno Genesio's squad were completing their pre-match warm-up.

Lyon's players were ushered down the tunnel as stewards held back the pitch invaders, causing a lengthy delay to kick-off. However, after further chaos at half-time, the league's authoritative body, the LFP, has decided to put a stop to the game.

"The LFP condemns in the strongest possible terms the incidents that occurred before the match and at half-time of the match between SC Bastia and Olympique Lyonnais.

"Faced with the unspeakable behavior of some of the supporters, the LFP requests that SC Bastia take all necessary measures to allow stadium bans to be imposed on the individuals responsible for these actions and, more generally, tp guarantee the security of matches played in the stadium."

Lyon, meanwhile, tweeted to confirm that their players will not return for the second half.

It is the second time in the space of three days that a Lyon game has been delayed after Thursday's Europa League clash with Besiktas was put back following crowd disturbances at Stade Olympique Lyonnais.

"Bastia fans kicked balls into [goalkeeper] Mathieu Gorgelin's goal. He and Memphis [Depay] tried to move them out of the way before being attacked by many fans," Lyon defender Jeremy Berthod told OL TV.

"The players then huddled together. The moment it happened, none of us wanted to come out of the dressing room and play this match."
