Serie A: Palermo make fifth manager change of the season as Lopez given the boot

Diego Lopez has become the fourth coaching casualty of trigger-happy Serie A side Palermo this season.

The Italian outfit became renowned for their revolving door policy during Maurizio Zamparini’s time at the helm.

He stepped down as chairman in February after overseeing more than 40 managerial swaps in 15 years, but his departure hasn't changed the club's tendency to bin coaches.

Lopez has been relieved of his duties after just 10 games in charge, although he did suffer seven defeats during that run, with at least three goals conceded in each of those reversals.

A sorry run has left Palermo 19th in the table and eight points from safety with seven games to play.

Diego Bortoluzzi is the man charged with the task of trying to mastermind an improbable escape, becoming the club’s 13th boss in the last two seasons.

He has previously spent time working as an assistant to Francesco Guidolin at Udinese, Swansea City and Palermo.

While he succeeds Lopez in the dugout, he is also following in the footsteps of Davide Ballardini, Roberto De Zerbi and Eugenio Corini in inheriting the reins at Stadio Renzo Barbera in 2016-17.
