'Holy s***! Get down!': Bees invade batting practice

Safety is paramount at Major League Baseball batting practice.

The pitchers hide behind a cage to avoid being hit, and the waiting batters wait on the outside for the same reason. Sometimes, however, there are other reasons to worry.

As captured by MLB.com's AJ Cassavell in Phoenix on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT), a swarm of bees can cause mayhem.

One person is heard yelling to those at the cage: "Watch the bees!"

As panic ensued there were two types of reactions: "Holy s***!" and other profanities were one. Another was "Get down! Get down!", a warning the players heeded by cowering behind the batting cage.

The bees reportedly hung around a back field before making their way to the field in use. Thankfully they didn't hang around for too long and practice soon resumed, unlike in a recent cricket international between South Africa and Sri Lanka.
