Italian surfer takes on humongous wave in Portgual

Incredible footage has captured an Italian surfer taming an absolutely massive wave in Portugal.

Francisco Porcella got the surfing world in a spin after taking on the humongous break at Nazare and coming away unscathed.

The Portuguese destination is known for serving up gigantic waves and Porcella can lay claim to catching one of its biggest.

The Italian looked the size of an ant in comparison to the huge wall of water that formed as a result of the 'mutant waves' in Portugal.

It looked at one stage like the brutal whitewash crashing around Porcella was going to claim the daredevil surfer.

But he managed to navigate his way across the epic break, before safely bailing out in what is undoubtedly one of the early candidates for Ride of the Year.
