Hockey player tries to block shot, loses chunk of ear

Players often put their bodies on the line for the good of the team, but sacrificing part of your own ear is next level commitment.

Unfortunately for Washington’s Daniel Winnik though, that’s what it came to when an attempted block went horribly wrong against the Florida Panthers.

The Capitals hard man slid to the ice but he got his head in completely the wrong position, as the fiercely struck puck took out part of his ear on its way to the goal.

The blow left Winnik sprawled on the ice for a lengthy period of time, but he made a remarkable comeback to the Capitals bench later in the match.

"Yeah, he didn't know what was going to happen,” Capitals head coach Barry Trotz said.

“He got the puck sort of in the ear hole and it sort of pinched off his ear. The trainers looked at him and he was just fine.

“He was just missing a part of his ear. He got chewed up a little bit so yeah, it’s just a small piece, but it got chewed up."

Hear hear.
