The result of this disgusting eye poke

Photographer Esther Lin has taken one of the most gruesome photos in UFC and sports history with a perfectly timed shot of Fabricio Werdum getting poked in the eye by Travis Browne.

The two heavyweights took part in a brutal encounter at UFC 203, producing a number of headline incidents.

They included; an insane flying sidekick, Werdum trying to fight Browne's coach (video above), a badly broken finger and the eye poke.

Despite Browne's eye appearing to penetrate deep within Werdum's skull, no serious damage was reported, with Werdum apparently just nursing a sore eye, but otherwise happy after winning the bout via unanimous decision.

Amazingly his eye injury wasn't even the worst of the night, with Jimmie Rivera risking long-term damage to his eye and vision after taking a hit from Urijah Faber earlier in the card.

"I have no vision (in the eye) right now,” Rivera told MMA Fighting.

"Everything is a blur. But at least I’m not in pain anymore. I was in so much pain last night, like someone was constantly pushing my eye ball in."

Meanwhile, another shocking image was taken during the Werdum-Browne bout, of Browne's badly broken finger.

The referee controversially allowed the bout to be paused for Browne to deal with the damage to his finger.
